Young professionals drive network initiative MOUNT Gambier's Young Professional Network (YPN) is aiming for a hole-in-one this weekend, teeing off with its inaugural YPN Pub Crawl on Saturday. The golf-themed pub crawl is a chip out of the rough for the recently established group, which has already registered more than 100 people to attend its weekly get-togethers and monthly events. For $2, people attending the pub crawl will be issued with an individual schedule and lanyard to receive drink specials, spending about an hour at each pub. YPN member and Mount Gambier City Council officer Kylie Climie said that while the event would tour some of Mount Gambier's finest establishments, the idea behind it was more about meeting people than drinking. "It's just another way for people new to the region to get together and network with others in the same situation," Kylie said. "Keeping young professionals in regional areas can be difficult when they don't have family or friends around to rely on, so it's great to have something regular to help people get out there and break the ice." The YPN Pub Crawl tees off from the South Eastern Hotel at 2pm, working its way down the fairway - avoiding the sand bunkers - to reach the 19th at Flanagans Irish Pub by 10:20pm. If plaid trousers and pom-poms aren't really your thing, the golfing attire is also entirely optional. "You definitely don't have to wear your golfing gear to attend," Kylie said. People interested in attending are asked to email Brooke Wilson at brooke@accinc.org.au to arrange tickets.
